Kiwanis Club of Cheney Meeting Notes for February 27 2014

Kiwanis Club of Cheney Meeting Notes for February 27 2014

Dear Kiwanians,

Keith opened the meeting.  The Secret Greeter was Jeff Keller.

It was Jerry Hilton’s wife’s birthday, and we sang (very well, it was noted).

Bob won the 50/50 dollars.  The quarter draw went to Kirk (not present).

The lucky person receiving the Pelican was again me (Steve)!  But, Keith had pity on me and had our guest speaker draw again – Ron Bauer (not present).  The Keeper of the Pelican cares for it for 2 weeks and relinquishes it by bringing a prospective member to breakfast or pays.

The Mid-Year Conference in the Tri-Cities (March 22nd).  Any volunteers willing to participate?

The Easter Hunt is scheduled for April 19th (Fred, Jim, and Duane).

Everyone was reminded that we are doing another flower delivery for Mother’s Day (May 11) since the Valentine Day deliveries went so well.

I introduced CHS Principal Troy Heuett to the club.  He indicated he might attend more Kiwanis Club meetings in the future.  Then, he introduced two student athletes who have done well recently.

Josh is a senior who competes on the CHS wrestling team.  He placed third in statewide competition this year!  He plans on attending ITT College in the Valley.

Trevor is a freshman who competes on the CHS swim team.  He placed 7th in the 200 freestyle and 12th in the 100 freestyle in the recent statewide competition.

Our guest speaker was Cheney’s Danai from the Park and Recreation Department.  She discussed many programs underway, to include “Let’s Move Cheney” and “Eat Well Cheney.”  The city is trying to create a culture of fitness.  One measure of success has been the drop in the Cheney students’ body-mass index over the past two years.

The next Board meeting is on March 3rd at 7 am.

The next Kiwanis Club meeting is on March 6th at 5:30 pm.

Respectfully,

Steve
