Kiwanis
Club of Cheney Meeting Notes for February 13 2014
Dear Kiwanians,
Keith opened the meeting.
The Secret Greeter was Bill Nation.
It was Duane’s wife’s birthday, and he paid not to have us
sing.
Duane won the 50/50 dollars.
He donated the money to the Scholarship Fund.
The lucky person receiving the Pelican was me (Steve). The Keeper of the Pelican cares for it for 2
weeks and relinquishes it by bringing a prospective member to breakfast or pays.
Our first special guest speaker was the Lt Governor Chuck (from
South Hill). He talked about the
Division Council Meeting, the Key Club Convention, and Mid-Year Conference in
the Tri-Cities (March 22nd).
Any volunteers willing to participate?
Next are some reminders.
The Easter Hunt is scheduled for April 19th (Fred, Jim, and
Duane)
Roger reminded everyone about who signed up to deliver
flowers today and tomorrow for the Valentine Day Flower Delivery. (For example, George was delivering flowers
at 8 am, hence, missed the meeting.)
Keith brought up the “Paint a Helmut” fund raiser at the
Spokane Fairgrounds on April 26th from 9am – 2 pm. The POC is Dora at (909) 915-5938.
Our guest speaker was Joe Nolan from Cheney’s Power
Department. He is the lighting director for the past 29 years. (Pat Isbell brought him). Cheney buys 97% of its power needs from the
Bonneville Power Administration (since 1930s).
Cheney has 5,200 customers. Over
half of the power generated is from hydropower (ie, dams). Then, he discussed the Columbia River Basin
Treaty with Canada – being reviewed for equity now.
The next meeting on February 20 at 7 am.
Respectfully,
Steve
