Kiwanis Club of Cheney
Meeting Notes for March 27 2014
Dear Kiwanians,
Keith opened the meeting.
The Secret Greeter was Vonda!
Fortunately, I was sitting with her (2nd week in row seated next
to the secret greeter!)
It was Peter & Susan’s
27th Anniversary, and we sang.
Margie won the 50/50
dollars (and, Randi won the previous week!). The quarter draw was a carry over. The Pelican draw was a carry-over for the fourth
week in a row (Bill Nation was picked twice in a row!).
The Inter-Club meeting at
the Deer Park Pizza Factory on March 26th went well. We had four Cheney Kiwanians in attendance.
Regarding Interclub
visits, we had four members of the Spokane Valley Kiwanis Club join us today –
even with no guest speakers!
Roger presented a check
for $720 for the flower deliveries that we did for Valentine’s Day! Next up is Mother’s Day (9-10 May).
The Easter Hunt is
scheduled for April 19th . We
now have 6,000 plastic eggs. The Care
Center folks are stuffing the eggs with candy.
Two EWU fraternities will also be assisting for this event. We now have three gift baskets for each of
the 5 age groups (for kids those who find the golden eggs). Helpers should report to Salnave Park at 9
am.
The next Board meeting is
on April 7 at 7 am.
I reported that the Golf
Tournament that we took over from Rotary is now scheduled for Saturday, June 7. It will cost $65 per golfer to include cart
and meal catered by Longhorn BBQ. Chris,
the manager at Fairways Golf Course, said he was interested in running the
event – to include recruiting golfers , marketing and advertisement. Fed is responsible for collecting gifts from
Cheney merchants, while I am responsible for getting hole sponsors ($70
each). The Cheney Federal Credit Union
agreed to be the Corporate Sponsor of the event again at $500! All the hole signs were delivered to the
Fairways Golf Course already.
Two Auctions to promote:
1)
Spangle is auctioning large items (to include autos and trucks)
on Saturday March 29 starting at 9 am in Spangle.
2)
Turnbull Wildlife Preserve is holding an auction on Saturday,
March 26, starting at 5:30 pm. It costs
$35 to participate – which includes a buffet meal.
Bad news: Duane fell at
home and broke a couple of ribs!
Finally, Keith discussed
the StageWest event for any members who are interested in going as a
group. There is a special dinner theater
performance on May 2nd at 6 pm called “Honestly Now.” Tickets are either $23 or $25 depending on
how many sign up to participate. Keith
would like people to commit by April 24th.
At the end of the
meeting, Spokane Valley said they would split a hole sponsorship with
Cheney. Keith agreed and paid $35 out of
his own money! Thanks, Keith and Spokane
Valley!
Respectfully,
Steve
